Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (left, R-TX) released the following statement regarding Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Sam Johnson’s (center, R-TX) decision to retire after serving out the remainder of the 115th Congress:

“Sam Johnson is an American hero who has faced every challenge that has ever come his way with faith, courage, and an unwavering optimism. He is an irreplaceable Member of our Committee and of our Congress. I am so grateful for Sam’s friendship, his leadership, and his remarkable service to Texas and our entire nation.

“And I am so blessed that my dear friend Sam will continue to serve with us over the next two years as our Committee leads the way on tax reform and health care. I also appreciate his efforts to shine a spotlight on the need to strengthen Social Security for all generations. Sam has been my seatmate at our Committee for years – and I am so grateful he will continue to be at my side in the months ahead.
