Recognizing this critical gap in emergency response, Crisis Connect was developed to turn everyday smartphones into a practical fallback communication layer when conventional infrastructure fails.
Founded and developed by 17-year-old Istanbul-based software developer Emirhan Duman, Crisis Connect has evolved from an early open-source prototype into a multi-platform application on Android and iOS, recently surpassing 10,000 downloads on Google Play.
Offline-First Communication and Emergency Tools
When standard connectivity goes offline, Crisis Connect supports direct device-to-device communication using localized technologies like Bluetooth rather than relying on traditional cell towers. This mesh-style approach is particularly valuable during earthquakes, floods, wildfires, and widespread power outages.
Alongside decentralized messaging, the app integrates essential crisis-oriented utilities into a single interface, including SOS signaling, location sharing, and emergency guidance protocols. The platform is explicitly designed not to replace official emergency services or professional radio equipment, but to serve as a vital secondary line of defense for affected individuals.
Institutional Expansion and Future Outlook
With the open-source codebase hosted publicly on GitHub for community inspection and contribution, the project is entering its next phase of development. Focus has shifted toward rigorous real-world testing, independent technical security audits, and pilot collaborations with formal disaster-management organizations.
In parallel, development is underway on Crisis Connect Hub, an AI-supported management platform tailored for institutional workflows and field coordination.
