Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed Alexander Paykin.

The Alexander Paykin Commentaries

On a recent episode of the Price of Business Show, host Kevin Price interviewed Alexander Paykin, Esq., Managing Director of Paykin Law.

A construction dispute is not just a contractor problem. It can derail a sale, refinance, lease, development project or investment.

On the Price of Business, Alexander Paykin, Esq. discussed the construction disputes that most often create legal and business emergencies: delays, change orders, mechanic’s liens, access disputes, prompt-payment claims and stop-work orders.

New York has its own rules. Mechanic’s lien deadlines, no-damage-for-delay clauses, RPAPL 881 access proceedings and New York City Department of Buildings stop-work orders can all affect project leverage. Other states handle similar issues differently. California has different lien timing rules, and Texas has its own detailed notice and lien-perfection system.

The takeaway for owners, developers, contractors and lenders is practical: construction documents are litigation documents. A project can fail because the legal structure was not built as carefully as the building.

Alexander Paykin, Esq. is Managing Director of Paykin Law, a New York firm focused on commercial litigation, real estate litigation and complex transactions. Learn more at https://www.paykinlaw.net/attorneys/alexander-paykin-esq.
