On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviews former CBS TV Vice President, Jeremy Murphy.
Cable television is confronting an existential crisis as audiences migrate to more flexible, lower-cost alternatives. Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) platforms like Pluto TV, Tubi, and Plex are eroding cable’s value proposition by offering diverse content without monthly fees. Subscription services, from Netflix to Disney+, further chip away at traditional bundles by giving consumers on-demand control. Rising cable prices, declining ad revenues, and cord-cutting trends intensify the pressure, while younger demographics show little interest in legacy TV models. With broadband and smart TVs expanding reach for streaming, cable risks becoming a niche service rather than a cultural mainstay.
