Domestic Copper Critical to America’s Clean Energy Future Amid Election

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Gordon Neal, President & CEO, World Copper Ltd. They discussed the November 5th elections’ potential trajectory of US renewable energy growth and why U.S. policymakers need to accelerate domestic copper development as part of the nation’s clean energy goals. “As the 2024 US presidential election approaches, the stakes for securing domestic copper resources have never been higher,” says Gordon Neal, President & CEO of World Copper Ltd,. (TSX.V: WCU| OTC: WCUFF| FRA: 7LYO), a Canadian resource company focused on its flagship Zonia Copper Oxide Project in central Arizona.
“In a clash of titans, the United States and China are battling for dominance in copper—America’s ‘red metal’ that is critical to the country’s clean energy future,” says Neal. “While America champions a free-market economy, China’s grip on copper resources and processing is tightening.”
Neal, a mining industry veteran who previously led Tincorp Metals and New Pacific Metals, emphasizes the urgent need for the U.S., whoever wins the Presidency, to prioritize the development of its own copper assets. “With the U.S. Presidential election on the horizon, it’s time to put energy metals, especially copper, at the forefront of policy discussions. Copper is essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing—yet we’re still relying too heavily on foreign sources.”
He warns that if America doesn’t ramp up its domestic copper processing capabilities, the country risks becoming even more dependent on foreign supply chains, particularly those controlled by China, which operates under far laxer environmental regulations.
