On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviews former CBS TV Vice President, Jeremy Murphy.
Bari Weiss’s appointment as editor-in-chief of CBS News in late 2025 signaled an unmistakable shift in the network’s direction. Brought in after Paramount’s acquisition of her media startup, The Free Press, Weiss was tasked with revitalizing CBS’s identity and broadening its audience appeal. From her first days, she made clear that no sacred cows would remain — particularly in primetime news.
Weiss openly discussed plans to revamp the CBS Evening News, exploring talent from outside the network and even from Fox News, including figures like Dana Perino and Bret Baier. The goal was not merely a new look but a new posture — one that could attract viewers who had long written off traditional broadcast news as predictable and partisan.
Before long, veteran anchor John Dickerson announced his resignation. Though he gave no public criticism, industry insiders viewed his departure as inevitable. Weiss’s restructuring plans had made it clear that the Evening News lineup was on the chopping block. Rather than wait to be replaced, Dickerson exited on his own terms.
His exit marks more than a personnel change; it underscores the cultural realignment underway at CBS News — from legacy caution to a calculated, disruptive reinvention.
