What is Going on with the Stock Market?

Several factors are playing a role in the massive decline in the stock market over the last few days.  Here are a few of those factors:

  • Response to the increase in the interest rate by the Fed.  It is now costing more to borrow money, which is making every type of business uncomfortable. More troubling for investors is word that the Federal Reserve believes the economy is strong enough not to need those extra low rates we have all gotten use to.
  • Talks with China are getting increasingly hostile and business owners are doubting the administration will create a deal that will keep the US economy flourishing and both nations doing business together.
  • Trump’s trade deals with Mexico and Canada are being criticized as less “free” than NAFTA by some and very protectionist in tone.
  • Apprehensions about the possibility that the midterm election results could disrupt economic policies that have been very pro-business.
