Good Driving Starts Young
The 14th Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report ® Annual, published today, named Brownsville, Texas , the city with the safest drivers in the United States. [i] Based on the Allstate claims data, the report highlights safe driving before the long weekend for Labor Day, the date on which many people travel and, therefore, a particularly fatal period on the road , according to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Published every year, the America’s Best Drivers Report ranks the 200 largest cities in the United States based on the frequency of collisions. To celebrate the cities that lead the classification and encourage them to serve as an example for other communities across the country, this year’s report uses an unexpected group to spread the message of safe driving: youth and adolescents, many of whom They can not drive yet.
“Young people who travel in the back seat are tomorrow’s drivers and depend on the adults in their lives to instill safe driving habits for them,” said Ken Rosen , claims manager at Allstate. “We really care about making our communities safer, so we made an effort to go beyond educating about the dangers of driving in a distracted and insecure way by bringing together inspiring young people and teenagers as well as their families. , in two low-ranking cities to emphasize the importance of safety on the road By bringing together communities from coast to coast, we hope that our drivers and influential leaders of the future can help Allstate have a positive impact on the lives of the whole country. “
Keeping roads in the United States safe is a particularly important cause for young people, for whom car accidents are one of the leading causes of death. Whether as passengers or as drivers, car crashes are the number one cause of death among 16-23 year olds, as well as 10 year olds. [ii] In an effort to educate communities about this problem, this year Allstate helps cities with the lowest ranking: Baltimore (ranked 200) and Los Angeles(post 194). Thanks to the help of young Internet star Mila Stauffer, the company launched a fun and educational video called “Good Driving Starts Young” at the events held on August 28. The short video joined the communities around the importance of driving safely. Stauffer, 3 years old, made sincere comments about a series of unsafe driving scenarios, which unfortunately are common.

For the fourth consecutive year, Allstate’s America’s Best Drivers Report also analyzed the correlation between collisions and sudden braking in more than 100 cities, using data collected by Drivewise ® , the innovative Allstate telematics programs that personalize the auto insurance experience by providing feedback about driving in real time and then rewarding safe driving with money.
Abrupt braking is defined as speed reductions at eight miles per hour or more in a period of one second. They can indicate unsafe behavior when driving, for example, when being followed closely or aggressively, or when driving distractedly. According to the data from Drivewise, the average American driver will brake abruptly 19 times for every 1,000 miles driven. Drivers in cities with fewer sudden braking events per 1,000 miles tend to have fewer claims for damage to car ownership.
The drivers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , accumulated the most abrupt braking of all cities in the United States, with an average of 42 events per 1,000 miles. The city that most approached ( Bridgeport, Connecticut ), obtained a significantly lower average of 34.8 abrupt braking events per 1,000 miles.
The Best Drivers Report of 2018 found that drivers in the following cities experience the least number of abrupt braking events per 1,000 miles:
