The Joan Hibdon Commentaries

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Joan Hibdon.

How building a culture of feedback is easier to talk about than it is to practice. After a missed meeting, someone chose honesty over avoidance and shared direct feedback with me about why they didn’t attend. While the delivery wasn’t polished and initially felt uncomfortable, it forced me to reflect on an important question: Do we truly want honest feedback, or only feedback delivered in a way that feels easy to receive?

The reality is that meaningful feedback is not always perfectly packaged. If we expect every difficult conversation to be carefully scripted and emotionally comfortable, we risk creating environments where people stop telling the truth altogether. Strong feedback cultures are built when people are willing to communicate directly, honestly, and respectfully — even when the conversation feels imperfect. Sometimes the greatest growth comes not from ideal delivery, but from the courage to say what needs to be said.
