The Real Reason LeBron James is Going to the Lakers
By the Price of Business Show, nationally syndicated and media partner of this website.
Kevin Price, host of the Price of Business show recently interviewed Chris Kidd, who is a long time commentator on everything sports, as well as a leading financial coach. During their conversation they discussed the move by LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kevin Price said he was not very surprised and believes this move is about the next chapter of James’ life. The questions of how long James will be a premier player have been around for quite some time. Shannon Sharpe, once a premier athlete in his own right, has argued that James has only a few years left at this level of performance. He made that prediction two years ago.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that James’ next career — as an actor and media mogul — is well on its way. He is the founder of SpringHill Entertainment. The list of James’ media projects (both as a performer and media developer) is significant, and includes:
- Saturday Night Live (as a performer)
- The ESPY Awards (as a host)
- More Than a Game (a central part of the documentary)
- Survivor’s Remorse (SpringHill’s popular show on Starz)
- Trainwreck (as an actor)
- The Wall game show (as executive producer)
- and many more
James is becoming totally Hollywood and it appears it is actually still fun for him. That did not seem like that was the case for him at all when it came to basketball during the last NBA playoffs and finals.
Thus, the point of this article — the real reason LeBron James is moving to Los Angeles. Well it isn’t because of the Lakers’ record. In 2018 it was 11th out of 15 teams in the West, record wise, winning only slightly more than 40 percent of its games. In fact, only 9 teams out of 30 in all of the NBA had a worse record than the hapless Lakers. Improving his chances of winning another NBA final does not seem to be a part of this decision.
The reason for James’ move to Hollywood is pretty obvious. It is all about the next chapter of his life — he will soon be trading his career as one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA to one as the most important players in the entertainment industry. In LA, he will be able to spend his time while not on the court focusing on his next project — as an actor and as a producer. With that, the LA move is very logical.
