The following are factors that may determine whether or not freelancing is for you. Ask these questions to yourself and discover if you are ready to become a freelancer!

1) Can you work alone? 

A freelance job isn’t about the big company of like-minded people. Usually, it’s just you and your computer. With a cat or a dog, maybe, but mostly alone. If you are okay with it and don’t feel lonesome – nice, that’s a good option for you.

2) Can you focus on the projects at hand without bothering about anything else? 

It may be your social media, loud neighbors, or seducing soft pillow. But you need to work and do your project without distractions.

Also, you can have an urgent project or deadline and it will make you work without sleep.

3) Can you self-motivate yourself? 

It may be exciting to work at home and for yourself for the first few months. Later it will become monotonous and not that fascinating. Can you keep your work motivation strong and don’t give up?

4) Are you ready for the risk and uncertainty? 

You must be ready to meet clients who may not pay you in full or that you will not be able to find a new project soon enough. Freelancing makes your income amount not constant and you should be prepared for it.

5) Are you good with communication?

We know that freelance is good for people who like to be alone. But you need to receive your orders somewhere and it requires communication skills. Are you ready to speak for yourself and do it clearly so your client will understand what you need to say?

6) Are you good at time management?

Are you willing to make time to contact clients by phone or meet them in person on a scheduled basis? Can you schedule your time to be with your family, your kids, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your sick grandma, or any other type of significant other? Being available when you’re supposed to be working is a good thing, but having the time to really enjoy what you’re doing and build relationships with your clients is a key element to becoming successful at freelancing.

Is Freelancing for you? Is it truly worth the risk? Are you willing to give up a lot of time and freedom to be successful in this freelancing business? It’s easy to be successful at it if you know how to market yourself and your skills. The most important thing is learning the ins and outs of marketing so that you can maximize the number of clients that you’re able to work with at any given time.
