This week, the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement regarding the 2019 Medicare Trustees Report and 2019 Social Security Trustees Report:

“Following historic reforms to America’s tax code, this strong economy has strengthened these important programs, but today’s reports remind us of a fact we have known for far too long: Medicare is going broke and Social Security is not solvent.  Congress must work together toward long-term, bipartisan solutions to address their challenges.

“We need to save Medicare for current and future generations. But any attempt by Democrats to end Medicare as we know it and eliminate Medicare Advantage in favor of government-controlled health care will rightly be met with resistance.

“And we know that Social Security reform only has a fair chance of succeeding if it is done with Republicans and Democrats working together. Today’s Trustees Report is an important reminder that the time to act is now.”
