Today, the Senate passed its version of the fiscal year 2018 budget resolution, a key step toward paving the runway for the Ways and Means Committee to advance tax reform legislation. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the Senate’s vote:

“Senators who voted for this budget just took a major step towards delivering on our tax reform promise to the American people. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the Capitol to reach agreement on a final budget so we can move forward with tax reform in the weeks ahead.

“When the budget is signed, sealed, and delivered, the Ways and Means Committee will introduce bold legislation that will deliver tax relief, grow our economy, and dramatically improve the lives of all Americans.”

Background: The House passed its version of the fiscal year 2018 budget resolution, the “Building a Better America” plan (H. Con Res. 71), on October 5, 2017. Once both Chambers pass a final budget agreement, the Ways and Means Committee will move forward with tax reform legislation.
