Global warming is a real threat to the world. It is sad that some people choose to ignore its consequences and fail to adopt the necessary remediation measures even when some of the effects are being seen and felt. It is a fact that if the world continues on the destructive path we are headed to as far as the world climate is concerned, then we are sure to face a serious calamity down the line.

But in as much as global warming is a threat to the peaceful coexistence in the planet, there are other serious things that pose more danger to the planet than global warming. And the sad thing is that the hand of man have its footprints. Here is a look at some of the things that are more threatening to our beloved planet earth than global warming-:

Weapons of Mass Destruction

During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, the world came to the realization that a conflict between the United States and the then Soviet Union might as well escalate into a nuclear confrontation. Though the years of the Cold War are long gone, we cannot deny the presence of a proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

It seems as if every country want to develop some kind of lethal weapons that could be used to wipe out entire populations should there be a war. This is not just about nuclear bombs alone, but there are other WMD that countries are actively developing, including chemical and biological weapons. Should such ever be used, then the very existence of the planet earth would be threatened to the core.

Loss of Biodiversity

Life is possible on the entire planet because both plants and animals depend on one another. If you have gone for passport renewal and traveled to other places around the world, then you may realize how the loss of biodiversity is a real threat to the world more than global warming. Every species has a role to play in the cycle of life, but when manmade activities interfere with the natural resources that these species depend on to stay alive, then we could be looking at a problem worse than global warming. As it stands, the world is now using 25% more natural resources than is sustainable and this is a great threat to biodiversity. With the loss of biodiversity, food supplies will be threatened, and before you realize it, the population will grappling with problems to do with pastes and diseases, not to mention the depleting water resources that might ultimately spell the end of the world.

Threats of Pandemic

In 2014, there was an Ebola outbreak in West African which led to the death of thousands of people. This outbreak was a subtle demonstration of the fact that pandemics can be more dangerous than global warming irrespective of how much you think your medical system has advanced. Since 1968, the world has never witnessed any global influenza threat, but seasonal flu still results in over 30,000 deaths every year.

If a strain immune to the available vaccines and lethal enough would emerge, then we could be staring at millions of deaths across the globe. Therefore, pandemics remain a real threat to the very existence of this world. And on a light note, if you were looking for passport renewal so that you can travel to Africa, the Ebola outbreak was contained and you are free to travel without any worries.

Deforestation

It is sad to note that almost 80% of any kind of development carried out in the land has a direct effect on the forests, and consequently, the world’s forest cover has reduced significantly. Naturally, both man and animals depend on the forests for rains as well as the purification of the air that we breathe. When they are gone, long spells of drought, as well as poor quality, are some of the things that can be expected immediately. However, the consequences of deforestation are far-reaching and if it is not checked, it is definitely more threatening to the world than global warming.

Overpopulation

Overpopulation is another threat that could be more dangerous to the world than global warming. The earth’s resources are limited and this implies that it can support just up to a certain number of the population. With overpopulation, almost all the resources will be stretched, and this might lead to a horde of other problems, including conflicts to control the meager resources available. But the good news is that population can be controlled and with effective planning, governments can adequately take care of their citizens without much stress on the available resources. However, if things were to get out of hand, then it would be a real challenge to sustain life on this planet.

Water Scarcity

Water is light and this is rightly so by every word of it. It is ironical that over 70% of the earth is covered by water, but close to one billion people in the world don’t have access to clean and safe water. Over one-quarter of the schools in the world still don’t have good sanitation and clean water. As such, it is clearly evident that water crisis is a top global risk and if no measures are taken in good time to avoid it is detrimental effects, then it would be more lethal to the world than global warming.

Energy Crisis

The demand and dependence on energy have increased tremendously over the years. Man now need energy on a daily basis for the normal conveniences. As it stands now, man is overusing the natural resources of oil, gas, and coal and there is poor harnessing of renewable energy. An energy crisis would threaten everything the man has ever worked for, ranging from the ability to cook food, stay warm, and move from one place to another. Livelihoods all around the globe would be affected and the quality of life would deteriorate very fast. In no time, lives would begin to be lost quicker than it is lost through global warming and this makes energy crisis a big threat to the world’s population than global warming.
