If the “Harry Potter” Characters Traveled Europe, These Would be Their Preferences
Upgraded Points LLC recently released the results of their newest survey related to the travel habits of their readers. In a fun twist, the travel company asked readers to sort themselves into one of the Harry Potter© houses at Hogwarts before answering a series of specific travel questions. The results of the survey offered detailed looks at which cities certain Hogwarts houses most preferred, as well as the specific types of vacations taken by those in each house (beach, road trip, camping, etc.)
Upgraded Points initially conducted an online survey of over 1,500 individuals by asking them to sort themselves into a Hogwarts house via the online Pottermore.com© quiz. After the survey takers were sorted into specific Harry Potter© houses, they were then asked two questions about their European travel preferences: Which city in Europe would they most like to visit, and what was their favorite kind of vacation.
Respondents were given 28 cities to choose from and tasked to select up to five. They were then asked to choose one type of vacation preferred: cruises, beach vacations, adventure travel, international trips, camping, road trips, etc.
After sorting the data, Upgraded Points compiled and published the results to reveal specific house preferences, as well as answers to additional questions: Which European cities were favored overall, and what types of travel were most preferred overall.
Top European City Choices Ranked by House
Each Hogwarts house was found to have undisputed European travel-destination favorites, with numbers indicating clear victories. Rome, Venice, Amsterdam, and Prague all made the top ten list, though the individual margins were often close between specific houses. Two cities in particular were the clear winners overall though, making the top spots of each house list, in addition to the top two most popular European travel destinations in general.
The study also looked into where Americans generally wanted to visit in Europe. Paris neared the top of the list, though it was not number one. Other top destinations were Rome, Dublin, Berlin, and Venice.
Types of Vacation Travel
Slytherin was the only house to not prefer international travel over every other type, in addition to having a clear aversion to road trips. Beach vacations as well as adventure travels also neared the tops of the lists of those who responded to the survey. Hufflepuff clearly preferred beach vacations over camping, and the Gryffindors were far more likely to be found on a cruise ship than Ravenclaws, who enjoy road trips.
“We love the Harry Potter© books here. And it’s fascinating that most people can find themselves aligning with the personality traits of one of the four famous Hogwarts houses. As it turns out, our survey indicated that those preferences also include specific travel modes and destinations too,” said Upgraded Points Founder Alex Miller.
