On a recent Price of Business, host Kevin Price visited with author Peter Flax about his new book, Live to Ride: Finding Joy and Meaning on a Bicycle.
This compelling book is a beautifully illustrated guide written for every type of cyclist—from mountain bikers, tourers and triathletes, beach cruisers, bikepackers, messengers, wheelie kids, and vintage bike collectors.
Organized by theme, each one exploring what Flax believes are the shared reasons that people ride: Adventure, Speed, Utility, Nature, Competition, and Self-Expression. Within each chapter are interviews and profiles with a diverse list of famed riders, both legendary and contemporary.
According to a statement, “Peter Flax is a Los Angeles–based writer and editor who has covered sports, adventure, and culture for 30-plus years. A lifelong cyclist himself, Flax has written about bike culture—with a focus on advocacy, racing, and the beauty of the lifestyle—for decades. He’s the former editor in chief of Bicycling, the largest bike-related magazine in the world, and the current US editor-in-chief of The Red Bulletin, an active lifestyle magazine published by Red Bull. He also has held senior editorial positions at titles like Runner’s World, The Hollywood Reporter, and Backpacker. His writing has appeared in dozens of outlets, including Outside, Men’s Health, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Peloton, Runner’s World, and Men’s Journal. Since moving to Los Angeles a decade ago, he has commuted exclusively on his bike, pedaling nearly 100,000 miles just to and from his job.”
