Trump Ignoring the Court Put Us on the Cusp of a Constitutional Crisis

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Warren D. Robinson.

They discussed: Many political scientists have said that an independent judiciary is the key component of a truly democratic society. To many, President Donald Trump has threatened that as he seemingly ignored a judge’s order to not deport a plane full of, according to the White House, criminal illegal migrants.  The Trump administration has said they did not ignore the judge’s order but that it was too late since the place was already over international airspace when the order came down. Attorney, entertainment executive and producer Warren D. Robinson doesn’t buy the Trump administration’s excuse. “The plane may have been in international airspace but the people who had the authority to order the plane reversed were very much on American soil and subject to the Judge’s order.” Robinson warns that Trump is slowly inching closer and closer to the line of ignoring a co-equal branch of government which would have grave effects on American society. “Trump is already signaling to Republicans, I want to impeach any judge who disagrees with me. He had his press secretary attack the judge and his wife who ruled against him and just completely defied his order. These are typical bully tactics we see used by strongmen and autocrats. If we’re not careful we will see Trump attempt to completely usurp judicial power.” Robinson believes the only thing that will reign Trump in is that the judiciary has to get tough. “We have seen that his fellow republicans are too cowardly to stand up to him so it’s up to the courts. I would love to see them hold some of these officials in contempt. Order them to go to jail for stonewalling and ignoring orders. Let’s see if, federal official’s fealty extends to sitting in jail on his behalf. They also need to speed up the process on deciding some of these cases. I think most officials are still decent and won’t defy a direct order.”
