The Wendy Bjork Commentaries

Today we are discussing the idea of showing up fashionably late to the New Year’s party and maybe even ditching it all together plus ways to stay focused on your dreams, goals and desires this year!

In this exclusive edition, Wendy discusses the benefits of celebrating the Lunar New Year, why it’s not your fault resolutions don’t stick and how to set yourself up for success!

Here is something to ponder. Would we have less anxiety and pressure if we ditched January 1st as our New Year and embraced the Lunar New Year instead?

Consider having more time to de-stress from the holidays, a floating beginning to the New Year with a celebration that lasts about two weeks.

Most of us are conditioned to embrace January 1st as our fresh start, our clean slate and the day to declare our ideas, ambitions, wishes, dreams and goals.

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to motivate yourself to make positive changes in your life. They also help you keep track of your progress and stay motivated to achieve your goals. However, many people give up on their New Year’s goals within a week. The reason behind this is that people don’t have the proper motivation or plan for their resolutions.

While it is easy to get excited about these big changes, it can be hard to stick with them throughout the year. It can be very hard to maintain resolutions when you are operating from an empty tank. You need to have a good reserve of willpower and energy if you are going to succeed at any goal, especially a big one.

Another reason people give up on their resolutions too soon is they are under-estimate how much effort it will take to stick with their goals. Trying to do too much too quickly can cause you to burn out before you even reach the halfway point. Creating realistic and achievable goals will be more effective than setting huge and unrealistic ones that you will struggle to meet.

Would having more time to celebrate the New Year have a longer lasting impact?

The Lunar New Year refers to an observance of the lunar calendar, which is the traditional system of marking time used by many East Asian countries including China, Vietnam, Singapore and South Korea. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, the lunar calendar marks time by tracking the movements of the moon and sun. The Lunar Near can vary in date depending on the year and is one of the most important holidays in these cultures, each having its own food and traditions that symbolize prosperity and abundance.

The Lunar New Year is celebrated during the second new moon following the winter solstice, until the full moon. It is a time of reunion for families and friends, as well as an opportunity to give gifts, decorate homes with lanterns and candles, and visit temples and shrines. It is also a time of prayer and thanksgiving for good fortune and prosperity.

The idea of a two week New Year celebration seems much more relaxing and fun to me, in addition to having time to breathe after the typical holiday rush.

If the idea of using the sun and moon to create a calendar sounds just a little too unusual, I invite you to check out my article on how the date for Easter is generated annually here: https://usadailypost.com/2023/04/07/how-the-moon-affects-easter/
